Lauren Slavin is a freelance journalist in Bloomington, Ind. She writes features for the Hoosier Times, which produces Homes & Lifestyles of Southern Indiana, Adventure Indiana, and Biznet.

Lauren is also a senior editor with Feminspire, an online media source for women by women. She is responsible for social media, editing, and managing a team of writers.

She is 23-year-old graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor of Science in mass communication, specifically journalism and new media, as well as public relations.

Lauren worked for four years at The Towerlight, an independent news organization under Baltimore Student Media. She served as editor-in-chief and the vice president on the BSM board of directors from spring 2011-spring 2012, senior editor from spring 2010-spring 2011, and arts editor from spring 2009-spring 2010.

Lauren interned in 2010 for the Baltimore City Paper, an alternative weekly newspaper. Her responsibilities included fact checking features, writing event previews, and updating the website’s calendar listings. In the spring of 2011, Lauren took on copy editing and the responsibilities of the City Paper’s associate editor while she was out of the office.

In October 2010, Lauren was a member of the student newsroom at the Online News Association’s annual conference, and worked with 20 other talented student journalists from around the country to provide coverage for the many workshops at the weekend-long conference.

Lauren has won four Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for Region 2: First Place in the category of Feature Writing (2012), Third Place in the category of Breaking News Reporting, Third Place in the Category of Breaking News Reporting (2011), and Second Place in the Category of Feature Writing (2010).
